What compounding means
A 503A pharmacy mixes medicine to order from a prescription written for you. It is not the same as a factory-made drug. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved, and the FDA does not check them for safety or effectiveness before they go on sale. Compounded preparations follow USP <795> for non-sterile and USP <797> for sterile compounding.
